Recollections and Remembrances

Dominican College Muckross Park is fortunate to have a rich legacy from the past and has many historic connections with the people and events of the Revolutionary Movement. The school was the home of Count Plunkett, father of Joseph Mary Plunkett who was based in the GPO in Easter week and was a signatory of the Proclamation. Members of the Plunkett family have attended our school over the century and have maintained contact with the school community. The founder of Cumann na mBan, Agnes O’Farrelly was a student of Muckross when it was St.Mary’s College which provided lectures for women in order to get their degrees from University. Eamon de Valera maintained a strong link with the school which lasted up to recent years. His grand-daughter, Eithne retired from the teaching staff in 2008 also attended the school as a pupil for her Primary and Secondary education. The list goes on…………..

We are very proud of our rich heritage and look forward to adding to that legacy by staging a commemoration of the historic events of 1916 that will do honour and justice to that past.
